What is the difference between LPDA and Yagi antennas?
The main difference between a cellular LPDA and Yagi antenna is an LPDA (Log Periodic Dipole Array) is better suited to a wider range of frequencies across the 3G, LTE 4G and 5G cellular networks which make it a wideband antenna whereas Yagi antennas have a narrow bandwidth and are suited to systems that use a specific frequency.
At the time of writing this, cellular networks operate anywhere between 700MHz to 3800Mhz which is a wide band of frequencies, hence LPDA are better suited to this and cover all the cellular bands. This means that we can tune into any of the bands coming from the cell tower that the LPDA is tuned into.
We use a Yagi antenna where signal is really bad and need a high gain directional antenna to tune into a specific narrow bandwidth such as 700Mhz to 900Mhz. These locations are normally remote areas where the towers are a long distance away and there are only 1 or 2 bands available which are normally 3G Band 5 and 4G/LTE Band 28.
