Summary

Our standard Cel-Fi Mobile/Vehicle Booster kits all come with the following 3 components:

    • A Cel-Fi GO G31 repeater which is ordered as a Telstra or Optus version, or the Cel-Fi G32 repeater which is selectable within the WAVE app for either Optus or Vodafone.
    • A 12V/24V DC power cable with Cigarette Lighter Adaptor (CLA). The cigarette lighter adaptor can be cut off so the unit can be hard wired.
    • An RFI Patch server antenna which is a small rectangular stick on antenna.

    Mobile Antenna Selection

You need to select the external donor antenna that will suit your requirements and there are 3 important factors to consider when selecting the CORRECT antenna which are in order of importance:

    1. Gain
    2. Strength and Durability
    3. Removeable Whip

    Donor Antenna Gain Options
    GainSuitable for
    5dBi

Around and close-ish to town or where the cellular towers are located in built up or hilly areas. Perfect for in the bush not that far out of town where signal is scratchy.

Shorter distance but much better in hilly/bushy terrain.

    6.5dBi

This is an all round antenna suitable for further out of town but slightly flatter terrain.

This is the antenna gain that we (Tin Can Solutions Owners) use and recommend which we have been able to achieve an extra 50km useable Telstra service compared to another phone on Telstra not connected to the Cel-Fi. We have been able to run our business remotely by taking phone calls and process orders in places that we normally would't be able to without this setup.

This antenna is a good all-rounder for marine/boating applications.

    7.5dBi

Suitable for flat/undulating terrain where longer distances are required but there's no mountains around blocking the signal.

Perfect for people who live and work in these locations or for people who are going to do a fair bit of travel in these areas.

This antenna is a good choice for marine/boating applications requiring that bit further distance.

    8.5dBi

Suitable for VERY flat/undulating terrain where much longer distances are required and there's definitely no mountains around blocking the signal.

An option for people who live and work in really flat locations or for people who are going to travel in these areas.

For people who don't live and work in these areas, we recommend setting up the system with a 6.5dBi antenna and then having a spare 8.5dBi whip to swap over when travelling into really flat terrain.

This antenna is a great choice for marine/boating applications for when a long way out at sea, but in flat seas only because when the boat rocks from side to side, the signal beamwidth being broadcast from the antenna is very flat and will also rock up and down sending the signal into the sky and the water which will cause drop-outs.

The collinear donor antennas that we supply for mobile/moving applications come in 3 versions.

    • Fixed Whip on Standard Duty Spring - RFI CD Series Antennas - Perfect for highway use and mild dirt roads, comes with a standard duty spring base. These are a fixed whip antenna and cannot be removed from the base.
    • Removable Whip on Medium Duty Spring - RFI CDR Series Antennas - Better suited to highway use with dirt roads thrown in and come with a medium duty spring base and removeable whip which unscrews off the base to store when not in use.
    • Heavy Duty Mothership - RFI CDQ Series Antennas - Perfect for severely corrugated dirt roads, 4WDing/Off-roading and commercial/industrial use. These are really tough antennas which look the part and come with a heavy duty spring base and a RFI Quickfit® removeable whip which unscrews off the base to store when not in use.

We also stock the RFI CSM600 magnetic base antenna for applications where you want to take the unit between vehicles or structures. The magnetic base cellular LTE antenna is only recommended for highway/sealed roads use where the signal is scratchy such as 1 bar of service that you need to get that little bit of extra service but don't want to mount an antenna to your vehicle. The antenna gain is 2.5dBi to 4dBi so it is suited to shorter distances where service intermittently breaks up between mobile phone towers. This solution will improve the mobile phone service when there is a sniff of service outside.

So which Antenna do you get?

There is a highly informative and totally independent review/article on testing of some well known brands of Cel-Fi Go compatible antennas and which ones performed the best. This link is to an external website called "CHOICE" and we have absolutely no affilliation with the author or the website. click here for the article which we think is a worthy read.

This article clearly shows that the RFI antennas outperform other brands by over 10km and this is the exact reason why we believe in RFI Antennas to which we are an Authorised RFI Dealer in Capalaba Brisbane and a Capalaba QLD stockist of RFI antennas.

We believe RFI antennas are simply the best available on the market.

    Ease of installation:

Our CelFi kits are all plug and play which means you can just plug it all together without the need to order more parts and adaptors to join things together.

    How do the Cel-Fi work?

In short, the Cel-Fi Go G31 is a mobile phone / cell phone repeater that pulls in a weak signal from cell towers in the area through the donor antenna which is normally mounted outside the vehicle as high as possible, and boosts the mobile phone signal into the vehicle through the server antenna. Any phones on the same provider within range of the server antenna will communicate via this antenna thinking it is just another cell tower and the Cel-Fi will boost the phones signal back to the cell towers.

The donor and server antennas are an extremely important factor to the whole system and can make or break how successful the Cel-Fi is in boosting a signal. An inferior antenna will not receive weak signals as well as a proven brand of antenna and we continually get calls from customers that have purchased another branded antenna elsewhere and they say their system doesn't work well. We explain further on some factors around the antennas which should help you to choose a setup that is right for you.

The Cel-Fi Go is setup with your phone, tablet or smart device via an app called the Nextivity WAVE app through a Bluetooth® connection. This app can also be used to monitor the status of the Cel-Fi and to change settings such as 3G, 4G or Auto modes and Mobile or Stationary modes.

There is another app called the Nextivity MyWave app which is used to tell the Cel-Fi to boost the same band that the phone is on which helps to reduces drop-outs. More on these below.
